AAI Awards 2011: Annual Critics Lecture

Opening hours:
7pm

The Architectural Association of Ireland's (AAI) Annual Critics Lecture will this year be given by renowned architectural historian William J R Curtis.

The AAI's awards, the winners of which will be announced the following day (29 October), aim to 'encourage higher standards of architecture throughout the country, to recognise projects which make a contribution to Irish architecture and to inform the public of emerging directions in contemporary architecture. They are judged by a panel of five distinguished assessors, of which Curtis is one, including an architectural critic, a foreign architect, two Irish architects, and a distinguished non-architect.

This year the Annual Critics Lecture will be followed by a performance of Ghosts of the Garden City (Green on Red Gallery, Lombard St. Booking required). A collaboration between Dennis McNulty, architectural historian Ellen Rowley and musician David Donohoe the event explores the history of mid-twentieth-century public housing in Dublin through a hybrid of lecture, documentary and musical performance.
