Steve McCurry: Reflections
The award-winning photographer talks exclusively to Phaidon.com about some of his striking shots
Spanning his remarkable 20 year career, Steve McCurry: Retrospective, currently at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (until 17 October), includes over eighty striking images taken from around the world - from Sri Lanka and Yemen to India and Tibet.
Featured among the works are some of his most iconic shots, including the wonderful Boy in Mid Flight (2005) (chosen for the cover of The Unguarded Moment) and Afghan Girl (1984), the image which became a symbol of both the Afghan conflict and of the refugee situation worldwide, and which heralded McCurry's entry into Magnum.
The Birmingham show is the UKs first and only exhibition devoted to the work of this acclaimed photojournalist.
