Last chance to see - Albert Watson retrospective

There is just one week left to see the comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the work of the fashion and commercial photographer Albert Watson at the Fotografiska Museum in Sweden (until 12 June). The show presents 120 works by the British photographer who photographed Kate Moss, naked, on her 18th birthday and who persuaded Alfred Hitchcock to hold a dead goose for his close up.

Born and raised in Edinburgh, Watson moved to the United States where his distinguished career in fashion and commercial photography began with his first test session for Max Factor cosmetics. His career flourished and to date boasts over 200 Vogue covers, 650 advertising campaigns and features in popular magazines such as Rolling Stone, Time and Vibe. High profile brands including Prada, Gap, Levi's and Chanel are amongst Watson's advertising accomplishments. His portraits have included rock stars and rappers and even royalty: Watson was the official photographer for Prince Andrew's wedding to Sarah Ferguson.

This exhibition, curated by Maria Patomella, presents enduring images that have moulded our perception of fashion, commercialism, celebrities, photography and music for four decades. Including Mick Jagger and Monkey with a Gun, the exhibition brings together some of the most striking images of Watson's work. 

A workaholic, Watson has devoted as much time to his private projects as his commercial assignments. He has published three books including a retrospective, Albert Watson. The versatility of his work encompasses glamourous photos of celebrities such as Naomi Campbell and Mike Tyson to documentary books on Las Vegas and images of prisoners on death row in Louisiana.  

Watson's distinctive photographs are instantly recognizable. Whether black and white or colour, the images maintain exceptional quality and an emphasis on perfection, displaying his technical brilliance that results in such striking images. Leading photo magazine, Photo District News named him one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time.
