An architectural tour of New York
Andrea Klettner takes a walking tour of the Big Apple's quirkier sites
By projecting a 3-Dimentional visualisation onto a 2-Dimentional surface, architectural projection mapping, which precisely matches an image with the facade of a building, can appear to transfigure, disintegrate or even collapse a structure in real time. The complex technique has allowed artists to turn any surface into a dynamic spectacle of light and shadow.
Increasingly utilised within advertising industry, the spectacle has been popularised by art and technology collectives such as London-based Seeper, whose recent sensational show, for video-sharing site Vimeo, brought New York’s notoriously heavy traffic to a standstill.
