A Unique Proposal, currently on show at Contemporary Applied Arts in London (until 19 February) is a selling exhibition of one-off, romance-inspired pieces in every medium from ceramics and textiles to wood and metalwork.
For the event the gallery has been transformed into a wedding reception set. The head table is adorned with with ceramics by Rupert Spira, turned wooden bowls by Peter Archer and wedding flowers by Paula Pryke, while themed guest tables showcase the glasswork of Michael Ruh, Lindean Mill and Phil Atrill - all specifically made for this exhibition. The gallery walls have been covered with the 'passionately colourful' woven work of Ptolemy Mann and the newest intricate textile work from Susie Freeman, who currently has a huge piece of textile featuring medical tablets on show at the British Museum. Other highlights include racy automata pieces by Will Smax; divine, graphic silver work by Rajesh Gogna and romantic mosaics by Cleo Mussi.
To help mark the exhibition, CAA has launched a unique gift list. Couples can arrange a list of bespoke pieces that they would like bought for them, or guests can simply contribute towards a voucher, which can then be redeemed on several pieces or one important piece.
