Many hard-working firms seek to distance themselves from child-like fixtures and fittings. Yet the Swedish company King, developers of the hugely popular Candy Crush Saga game, now has a head office as playful as its products.

Candy Crush Saga, King’s most popular game is set in the “magically tasty world of the Candy Kingdom”, where confectionary-themed characters such as the Bubble-Gum Troll are to be found at locations like the Lemonade Lake and the Gingerbread Glade. Yes, we know. But stick with us for a moment longer.

Stockholm design agency Adolfsson & Partners has created a cartoonish environment in a 1940s building in Stockholm, with bright colours, fairground-inspired furniture and cartoon- themed rooms.

“Using King's 200 games for inspiration, we created an environment where all the employees can work and be inspired within a world of games,” says co-founder Hans Adolfsson. “We didn't build an office – we created a kingdom.”

The office houses 430 workstations, 42 meeting rooms, an indoor park, as well as private rooms and relaxation areas. Some of the interior screens are mobile, which adds to the enviroment's flexibility. “We created a colourful and energy-filled office featuring both humour and intelligent solutions,” Adolfsson says. “This is an office that reflects King – what they create and what they believe in.”

This is only the designers’ second office project, but they hit the ground running, as their first was to create an interiors concept and guidelines for fellow Stockholm new-media success story, Spotify. That commission inspired King to get in touch. For more, go here. Meanwhile for greater insight into contemporary interiors, check out our recent book Room.
