Following the sad news of René Burri's death, we would like to share some of the Magnum photographer's greatest, but lesser-known work with you.

Our 2013 book Impossible Reminiscences brought together a revelatory collection of colour work that Burri had shot over the years - but until then had kept to himself - along with some poignant, some funny, some quite shocking, memories associated with them.

Of course, monochrome shots were, for many years, the only acceptable type of photography to be shown in galleries or distributed by serious news agencies. However, René always shot on colour stock too, and, as he said on the back cover, "I have led a life as a photographer - one in black and white and one in colour." Take your time leafing through the images above, and if you like what you see you can buy a copy of Impossible Reminiscences here.
